Oradea can be many things. A quaint, not so small but not quite big town with cake like buildings, all colorful and pretty. The Secession and Art Nouveau eras had a bit of fun here and everywhere you look you are bound to find yourself near colorful and delicious decorative motifs.
Here’s a mini guide to what you can enjoy in Oradea:
- Have a walk on the Crișul Repede river path. It’s gorgeous in Autumn.
- The swan invaded river is perfect for that perfect Instagram pic.
- Have coffee or just sit in the sun near the Black Eagle Palace – a shopping galleria, named after its famous stained glass eagle in the ceiling, a Secession-style covered shopping gallery dating to 1908, with a glass roof & boutiques. At night the gallery transforms into an awesome party scene.
- Go and see the most unique church in Europe, a few steps away from the palace – Biserica cu Lună – with an astronomical clock depicting the phases of the moon.
- Have a walk in the near-by parks (we stumbled upon a Mediterranean food festival. Yum!)
- Eat at Butoiul de Aur (awesome pizza!) and The Neolog Synagogue ‘Zion’’s restaurant, with it’s beautiful large terrace on the Crișul Repede river.
- Eat ice-cream at Sweet Magnolia.
- Have drinks at Origins Cafe and their great backyard full of cats and Gekko Pub, where the party doesn’t stop.
