It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
Christmas markets everywhere, mulled wine, traditional food – this time we went to Zagreb, Croatia. If you are in search of a Christmas Market that is just as awesome (maybe even more) as the Vienna Christmas Market, then right here is your perfect destination. It’s wonderful and oh, so full of charm.
Although we froze to death, we found lots of warm treats everywhere, pubs and bars open until the wee hours of the morning, people that are friendly and welcoming.
Here’s what you should look for in Zagreb:
- The Lotrščak Tower – you can see the whole city from above. It’s great for your perfect Instagram selfie.
- The Tkalčićeva street (“The Beer Street“) – full of pubs and restaurants, the place to be if you’re looking for traditional Croatian food and a variety of craft beers.
- Gradec – “The Upper Town” – the medieval nucleus of the city. Get lost in its beautiful narrow streets all set in cobbles, lit by gas lamps.
- Ban Jelačić Square – it’s huge and full of people, even at 12 am.
- Dolac Market – the freshest produce, a meat and dairy market on an elevated square. We stayed right near the market.
- Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square – a huge park where the Christmas lights are lit in every tree, it’s so magical.
- Repubulic of Croatia Square – the main city square, transformed into a huge skating rink during the Christmas Market.
- All the lovely bars, pubs and restaurants EVERYWHERE, they all have something special and are wonderfully decorated.
