Days And Nights in Lecce

October 31, 2025
Lecce, Italy

If you you’re a fan of Baroque Architecture (like me) and also love Italy, Lecce will leave you breathless. So much bigger than Noto, another Baroque Italian jewel (which is much smaller – but worth it also), Lecce is amazing for so many reasons. One of those many reasons is that it is that delightful, day and night!

So many streets to wonder through, so many places to enjoy a Caffè Leccese (in the mornings) and so many nights to enjoy many, many Negronis (the Negroni Sbagliato is a pleasurable choice too, order it!). You will romanticize your time there: between the narrow cute streets, the many churches and caffees, you will wonder why you haven’t heard of this place before. Named “The Florence of the South”, Lecce has amazing Baroque Architecture and one of the most amazing Baroque churches – the Basilica of the Holy Cross – a 17th-century church featuring a facade with dozens of intricate figures & a rosette window.

Piazza del Duomo is a very beautiful and quite surprising square, nestled and hidden around the many maze like tiny streets, it opens as a huge Baroque square that is so amazing at night. Many churches and museums are part of the Lecce sight seeing bundle tour but you can enter separately in which one you fancy more.

The whole region of Puglia has Luminarie decorations, elaborate, large-scale, temporary light sculptures made of wooden frames and thousands of colored lamps. Their lights at night bring a feeling of whimsy and delightfulness everywhere you go. We even had such a decoration in our AirBnb, above the bed. It was adorable.

As always,
