The New York of Europe – Warsaw, Poland

December 31, 2025
Amazing Warsaw

Flying straight to Warsaw from Budapest in December, at night, clear skies, winter cold, a sort of familiarity was sensed as we were waiting for the public transport to get us to our AirBnb. Coming from the Communist Block ourselves, we did actually expect familiarity. However, we did not expect a rather huge city full of sky scrappers that rise out of that familiarity of Communist blocks. Because Warsaw is a modern, quite exquisite city, that rises out of that Communist reality. A marvelous surprise. A marvelous city.

Straight in the middle of Warsaw is the Palace of Culture and Science (or PKiN), a Stalinist high-rise building, inspired by American Art Deco. A Christmas Market is right next to it, with a huge ferris wheel. Everything is grand and surrounded by these huge sky scrappers. One of them is the tallest in the European Union, the Varso Tower. All around PKiN there are impressive and quite big shopping malls. Everything is huge and very vast: huge glass buildings, huge boulevards that cross Warsaw from end to end. It’s quite magnificent.

A few tram stations away is the Old Town Warsaw (Stare Miasto) an UNESCO recognized district. The whole vibe changes as you arrive in Stare Miasto: cute narrow streets make way to tourist-y restaurants, taverns and caffes. All the pierogis you can eat, you can in Old Town Warsaw. Also, a nice Christmas Market vibe is all around, especially in the Old Town Market Square, complete with a huge skating ring.

Palace on the Isle (also known as Baths Palace) situated in Warsaw’s Royal Baths Park is a tranquil spot if you want to enjoy a day away from the busy boulevards and Christmas Markets. Warsaw has many parks, all are very beautiful and full of cute ducks. Our AirBnB was at the entrance of another big beautiful park – Pole Mokotowskie.

And so is Warsaw: surprising, clean, safe and extremely modern. A must on your travel itinerary, if you ever consider coming to Poland.

As always,
