Back in London

July 11, 2022
London

It’s been too long since I’ve been to London. Too long and life just got in the way, in the meantime. I thrive in big cities and their energy. Especially London. Too bad I was born in a small one. Besides having my Costa Coffee everyday, wearing all black and roaming from zone one to zone four back and forth, I did manage to shoot moments in a hurry, the elusive empty streets and corners of unknown London. More below, and I do warn you, this is a long post.>

But just before that, I’ll tell you what not to miss, especially during the Summer, take it from a girl who worked and used to live in London. Go beyond what is touristy and see:

  • The Garden at 120 – in the heart of City of London, near Sky Garden (which needs a booking in advance), you can go up on Fenchurch Street and it’s totally free. All the beautiful views you can imagine.
  • See the whole of London from the Observatory in Greenwich Park.
  • Go to Camden and then take the Regent Path on the canal, right down to Regent’s Park.
  • See Paddington Station and then exit on another canal and walk to Little Venice, it’s just 4 minutes away from the station.
  • Go to Brixton and surround yourself with party people.
  • Spend a day in Notting Hill and then Hyde Park.
  • Walk the streets of City of London and see the sunset over the Millenium Bridge, then walk in any direction and get a table at any pub on the river Thames.
  • Visit the Barbican Center. It is like a walk back in time. Its brutalist architecture is a must.
  • Go to Chelsea on Sunday and have a Summer cocktail in Sloane Square.
  • Have a drink at the many pubs in Soho or near Covent Garden, at night.
  • Feel small and visit Canary Wharf, have lunch at the many restaurants and pubs on the docks, or watch a game of cricket on a huge screen and have a picnic near.
  • Hop on the new #elizabethline. The platforms are wider and the trains larger. The stations quite a sight to marvel.

Below, as promised, London without many people.
