Polignano a Mare

June 30, 2019

Oh, you Summer… The way you make me feel. The way I felt riding the train from Monopoli and getting off in Polignano a Mare: I’ve seen photos but never expected to feel it live – utter amazement. It’s so surreal and beautiful.

We had a chance to choose a “beach day” and we chose Polignano, even though I knew it might be crowded. And crowded it was. And extremely hot. The South of Italy is extremely hot and dry. I did not mind. I had my birthday two days before and everywhere we went, we were giddy with excitement.

Every corner, as you get above the Adriatic Sea, is amazing. I managed to get my “no people” shots, but it was difficult. Polignano a Mare is full of tourists. I mean, who wouldn’t go to this amazing place? We took a train from Bari, Polignano is 30 minutes away and got back pretty late, catching the last train on a Sunday at 9 pm (during the week there are later trains).

We ate a quick brunch (Pescaria and Rotellina are a good choice) and later dinner and got to the beach before 4 pm. It was so hot I managed to burn my back and my feet, of all places. On the beach we had Salitos (you cannot bring any glass bottled beer and they don’t serve it to you) and enjoyed a very rocky beach and a somewhat cold Adriatic Sea. I did not mind, I was happy.

As always,

p.s. I could not choose just a few photos, this is such a beautiful place I felt any pic left unpublished would do a disservice to this already perfect beach town. Beware of a long post ahead.
